Resolution Adopted

Illinois House and Senate, Illinois Constitution; House and Senate Rules, 104th General Assembly

The chamber adopted this resolution. A resolution is not a law: it states the chamber's position, honors someone, or directs its own business, and it does not go to the Governor.

The General Assembly can make laws only by bill (Illinois Constitution, Article IV, Section 8(b)), so a resolution, however worded, does not change the law.

A resolution can be adopted without a roll call. In the Senate, resolutions on its Resolutions Consent Calendar are adopted together in one motion, without debate, unless three members object in writing (Senate Rule 6-1(c)). A resolution that spends State money needs a record vote of a majority of those elected, in either chamber (House Rule 45(c); Senate Rule 6-1(b)).

When the line ends in three numbers, they are the tally: yes, no, present.
