Placed on Calendar
Illinois House and Senate, House Rules, 104th General Assembly
The bill is now listed on the chamber's daily calendar at the stage named, so it can be taken up there. Being on the calendar does not mean it will be called.
Each chamber works from a daily calendar that lists bills by stage — Second Reading, Third Reading, Concurrence and so on (House Rule 31). A bill a committee reports favorably is placed on the order of Second Reading (House Rule 24(a)); after its second reading it moves to Third Reading, where the vote on passage happens.
Placement makes a bill eligible to be taken up; it does not schedule a vote. A bill still on the calendar when its deadline passes is re-referred — to the Rules Committee in the House (House Rule 19(a)), to Assignments in the Senate (Senate Rule 3-9(a)).
In the House, “Short Debate” means floor debate on the bill is limited to a two-minute presentation, a two-minute response and one minute to close (House Rule 52).
