Governor Approved

Illinois House and Senate, Illinois Constitution

The Governor signed the bill, so it is now law. When it takes effect is a separate date.

If the Governor approves a bill, he or she signs it and it becomes law (Illinois Constitution, Article IV, Section 9(a)). It is then given a Public Act number.

Becoming law and taking effect are different: unless the bill sets its own date, a bill passed before June 1 takes effect on January 1 of the next year (Effective Date of Laws Act, Section 1).
